GEORGIA SOCIETY OF CPAs EMPLOYEE BENEFITS CONFERENCE

Georgia CPAs will be hosting their inaugural Employee Benefits Conference on May 3rd at the Cobb Galleria Centre. In Atlanta, Ilene Ferenczy will be speaking to the CPA group on “Legal Update – Compliance Tax Administration,” and also participating on an “Ask the Experts” panel for a participant Q&A session.

NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF CPAs EMPLOYEE BENEFITS CONFERENCE

North Carolina CPAs will be gathering in Greensboro on May 7th for their annual Employee Benefits Conference. As a slight deviation from their regular category of audit professionals as speakers, Ilene Ferenczy has been asked to join the speaker group and present her lawyer’s point of view regarding ERISA Fraud. She will also participate on an “Employee Benefit Plan Audit Best Practices” panel of experts.

BENEFITS CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH – The BCOS is Coming!

Jim Paul and Ilene Ferenczy will be featured speakers at this southern regional ASPPA-sponsored conference May 9th-10th. Jim and Ilene will be co-presenters for “ERISA Litigation,” Ilene will also be presenting a session covering “Corrections: The New Rules from the IRS,” and Jim will be co-presenting a session on ESOPs. In addition to presenting, Ilene will be hosting her annual BBQ at her home for all BCOS attendees.

ENROLLED RETIREMENT PLAN AGENT (ERPA) CONFERENCE

Denver will be the site of this annual conference on May 30th-31st, and Jim Paul will be presenting one session on Loan Issues, and another on Ethics.

ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF GREATER TWIN CITIES

Minneapolis/St Paul will be the site of a June 11th full-day seminar that Ilene Ferenczy will be conducting for members of the local ABC. The exact topics are still under discussion

GREAT LAKES BENEFITS CONFERENCE

Ilene Ferenczy will be co-presenting a “Keeping Current” general session at the GLBC in Chicago on June 13-14. She will also be conducting a ‘Compensation Issues” workshop.”

CAPITAL FORUM ON PENSIONS

Jim Paul and Ilene Ferenczy will be co-presenting a session on “The Fantastic World of Retirement Plan Compensation” at this Pensions Forum on June 19th in Sacramento. They will both also be participants on a “Experts Q&A” panel. Ferenczy + Paul LLP will be a sponsor of the Forum which is being hosted by the local NIPA and WP&BC chapter.

ASPPA BENEFITS COUNCIL OF NORTHERN INDIANA
The ABC chapter in Ft. Wayne has invited Ilene Ferenczy to their annual training day on June 25th. Ilene has worked with the group for several years and will once again be covering a variety of benefits topics as well as bringing the participants up to date on recent developments in the pension world.

RECENT RETIREMENT AND BENEFITS LAW EVENTS

MICHIGAN STATE BAR ASSOCIATION

Ilene Ferenczy was engaged by the State Bar of Michigan to present a half-day seminar to Detroit-area attorneys on a comprehensive look at recent developments in pensions with “Keeping Current – Washington Update.” The four-hour program was endorsed for CLE credit.

CONSTRUCTION FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (CFMA) - Sacramento Chapter

On February 21st, Jim Paul conducted a workshop for the CFMA on “Healthcare, Technology, and Other Developments Affecting the Construction Industry.” He covered ESOPs, ERISA fee disclosure, the recent increase in IRS audits and DOL investigations, and gave a recap of 401(k) plan lawsuits.

LORMAN EDUCATION TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS SEMINAR

Ilene Ferenczy was one of the key speakers at this Lorman-sponsored seminar for tax-exempt organizations on Friday, February 8th at the Holiday Inn Atlanta – Perimeter/Dunwoody. As one of the five presenters, and the only benefits expert on the agenda, Ilene discussed "Current Hot Benefits Issues in 403(b) Plans for Tax-Exempt Employers."

SUNGARD ADVANCED PENSION CONFERENCE

As usual during SunGard's semi-annual conferences, Ilene Ferenczy was one of the main presenters. In Orlando on February 6-7, Ilene conducting several workshops, including the opening "Keeping Current" Washington update session, two workshop sessions on "Real Estate and Unique Investments: Qualification, Taxation and Reporting Issues," two sessions on "Plan Amendments: Procedures, Timing, Cutbacks and Other Issues," and will be part of the "Pension Jeopardy" panel. Ilene will have to miss the "Ask the Experts" panel on the final day due to another commitment, but she'll be back ready to take on those questions during the fall SunGard conference in Chicago.

LOS ANGELES BENEFITS CONFERENCE

Ilene Ferenczy co-conducted a workshop on “What a TPA Needs to Know,” and moderated an IRS Defined Contribution Q&A panel discussion at the annual LABC Jan. 30 – February 1. This conference was well attended by west coast benefits practitioners.
